About the position

The Catering Sales & Event Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of catering sales and event management at the Thompson Nashville hotel. This role focuses on executing catering events with passion and drive, maximizing revenue opportunities, and fostering positive relationships with guests and colleagues. The individual will ensure smooth execution of events while maintaining financial profitability and delivering exceptional guest service.

Responsibilities

  • Implement effective marketing plans for generating catering revenues.
  • Work closely with Food & Beverage Director and Executive Chef to sell menus that meet client needs and maximize revenues.
  • Negotiate, prepare, and write catering contracts.
  • Prospect, solicit, and close new business while maintaining repeat clients.
  • Interact with clients to determine needs and direct staff accordingly.
  • Respond to telephone and walk-in inquiries from potential guests.
  • Actively participate in industry-related organizations and community activities to create booking opportunities.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure functions go according to plan as outlined in the event order.
  • Ensure all accounting is completed for groups requesting direct billing and collect deposits.
  • Provide an overview of weekly events to staff and answer questions during meetings.
  • Periodically review and adjust catering menus to ensure product and vision consistency.

Requirements

  • Dynamic, enthusiastic, creative leader who thrives under pressure.
  • Proven selling, negotiating, prospecting, and presentation skills.
  • Highly developed customer service skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain financials for business booked and forecasted.
  • Thorough knowledge of food and beverage products, proper preparation, and presentation.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Coordinating skills to determine time, place, and sequence of operations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of the Hyatt Envision system is a plus but not required.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred; however, any combination of education and training within luxury hotel Catering, Sales, and Convention Services will be considered.
  • Extensive knowledge of food and beverage etiquette, guest relations, and service standards.
