About the position

The Catering Sales Manager at Downright Austin, a Renaissance Hotel, is responsible for selling and detailing social and corporate catering events, balancing efforts between corporate group bookings and social events. This role involves negotiating arrangements, maximizing hotel revenues, and ensuring high levels of service for each catering event. The manager will also be involved in daily solicitation for new business, contract negotiation, and maintaining communication with hotel staff to facilitate successful events.

Responsibilities

  • Sell and detail social and corporate catering events for the hotel.
  • Negotiate arrangements with clients for meetings and functions, including menu suggestions and room setups.
  • Inform other departments of arrangements in writing to ensure successful events.
  • Solicit new business daily and coordinate local marketing efforts.
  • Facilitate communication before, during, and after events with hotel staff.
  • Train and supervise other associates as directed by management.
  • Maintain accurate communication among all hotel departments.
  • Promote the hotel through goodwill and a positive attitude.
  • Attend training classes and meetings as scheduled.
  • Identify operational challenges and develop solutions with property staff and customers.
  • Solicit banquet and catering sales through telephone and personal contact.
  • Work closely with the sales team to maximize facility utilization.
  • Continuously improve customer service based on feedback and personal judgment.
  • Finalize details on Banquet Event Order Sheets and publish BEOs for distribution.
  • Maintain budgeted sales quotas and create ideas to increase catering revenue during low demand periods.
  • Provide site tours to potential customers of the hotel's banquet facilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of catering sales experience or equivalent experience in hotel Catering/Convention Services, Banquet, Hotel Sales, or Culinary Arts.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
