About the position

US Farathane is seeking a skilled Product Designer with a strong focus on Catia design to join our team at the Corporate Technical Center in Auburn Hills, MI. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating all CAD files using Catia V5 or NX, adhering to customer standards. This role requires a deep understanding of automotive interior and exterior plastic design, including various molding techniques such as injection molding, 2-shot injection molding, compression molding, and extruded design, as well as expertise in class 'A' surfacing. In this position, the Product Designer will maintain 3D math models, drawings, and assemblies using Catia V5/V6. The designer will interpret information from both internal and customer engineering teams, including marked prints, sketches, and PowerPoint presentations, and apply this information to the design process. The ability to follow design direction and develop multiple design concepts within tight deadlines is essential. The designer will also be responsible for applying customer standards and procedures within part designs for release into OEM systems. Collaboration with the Engineering Team is crucial to ensure that Body CAD requirements are met, and effective communication with the Design Manager regarding project deliverables and timelines is expected. The designer must be able to meet program design and drawing deliverable schedules and apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances (GD&T) to drawings. Additionally, the role involves creating math models using sketcher and parametric modeling techniques, and familiarity with Ford Teamcenter is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Create all CAD files using Catia V5 or NX to customer standards.
  • Maintain 3D math models, drawings, and assemblies using Catia V5/V6.
  • Interpret information from internal and customer engineering teams and apply it to the design.
  • Follow design direction and develop multiple design concepts in a short duration of time.
  • Apply customer's given standards and procedures within part design for release into OEM's system.
  • Work directly with the Engineering Team to ensure Body CAD requirements are met.
  • Communicate with Design Manager on project deliverables and timing.
  • Meet program design/drawing deliverable schedules.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances to drawings.
  • Create math models using sketcher and parametric modeling.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in design technology, mechanical design or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of hands-on automotive product design experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience using Catia V5.
  • 1-5 years Catia V5 drawing experience.
  • Familiarity with Automotive OEM Global Requirements.
  • Ability to create class 'A' surfaces from master sections, scans, and surfaces.
  • Experience designing injection molded components with a good understanding of backside lifter/slide design, 'A' surface graining, and mold design associated with draft angle.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office - Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
