About the position

The Casual Medical Assistant position at UPMC's Magee Specialty Services - Horizon office in Farrell, PA, is designed for individuals passionate about patient care and seeking a role with opportunities for growth and development. This role involves both back office and front office duties, working primarily during weekday daylight hours with a flexible schedule of 10 hours per week. The position does not require evenings, weekends, or holidays, making it ideal for those looking for a balanced work-life schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Check schedules and organize patient flow.
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure room.
  • Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
  • Collect patient information/history; take vitals, perform screenings per provider guidelines.
  • Relay instructions to patients/families.
  • Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA and other regulations.
  • Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
  • Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
  • Manage inventory of supplies; restock exam/procedure rooms.
  • Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).
  • Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and document patient information into the medical record.
  • Answer calls and provide pertinent information including patient education as directed.
  • Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
  • Complete forms/requisitions as needed and schedule appointments.
  • Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Prepare and manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.
  • Administer injectable medication and vaccines under the direction and supervision of a physician.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities are necessary.
  • CPR certification required based on AHA standards within 30 days of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous Medical Assistant experience is preferred.
