About the position

The CBH Refugee Ambassador position at Utah State University (USU) Extension is a part-time role focused on delivering nutrition education and promoting healthy lifestyles among low-income individuals and families, particularly within the refugee community. The ambassador will engage in teaching, community outreach, and program management, ensuring adherence to SNAP-Ed guidelines while fostering partnerships to enhance food access and physical activity opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver established and approved Create Better Health curriculum covering basic nutrition, food safety, food budgeting, and physical activity education to groups eligible for SNAP benefits.
  • Conduct face-to-face classes aimed at low-income individuals and families.
  • Effectively communicate and engage with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Commit to providing culturally relevant services.
  • Work with community partners to enhance healthy food access and physical activity opportunities within the county.
  • Ensure the healthy choice is easily accessible for clients.
  • Continue employment based on performance, need, and available grant funding.
  • Operate under the supervision of a County Extension supervisor.
  • Adhere to Create Better Health (SNAP-Ed) policies and procedures.
  • Provide accurate and timely reports and evaluation data to the state office.
  • Recruit program participants through various channels like personal contact, advertising, social media, and collaborating with agencies like DWS.
  • Plan and coordinate with various organizations and agencies, including USU, DWS, WIC, local health departments, senior centers, schools, churches, and community organizations.
  • Familiarize clients with available community resources, including DWS, WIC, food banks, Extension programs, etc.
  • Facilitate workshops at public events like farmers' markets, county fairs, and other community events.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with SNAP procedures and local community food distribution sites is desirable.
  • Ability to deliver educational content effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Strong communication skills to engage with individuals from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience in community outreach and partnership development.

Benefits

  • Hourly wage of $15.00 per hour.
  • Part-time flexible schedule (20 hours per week depending on available grant funding).
