About the position

The CBI Special Agent position is a critical role within the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, responsible for conducting complex criminal investigations across the state. This position requires a POST Certified Peace Officer to engage in various investigative assignments, including major crimes, cold cases, human trafficking, and cyber crimes. The role emphasizes collaboration with local law enforcement agencies and involves significant responsibilities in evidence collection, analysis, and legal procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct lengthy complex criminal investigations, including homicide, arson, and serious assaults.
  • Write affidavits, warrants, and subpoenas for legal proceedings.
  • Testify in court and provide recommendations regarding prosecution.
  • Collect, analyze, and disseminate criminal intelligence.
  • Analyze legal and agency documents to support criminal investigations.

Requirements

  • Six years of professional investigative or detective experience with a law enforcement agency, or a Bachelor's degree and two years of experience, or a combination of education and experience totaling six years.
  • Current Colorado POST certification in good standing.

  • Knowledge and experience with felony crimes.
