About the position

The CC Division Dean for Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences at New Mexico State University is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and promotion of the division and its programs. This role ensures high-quality instruction in a safe and engaging learning environment while providing academic and educational leadership to faculty and students. The Dean will oversee curriculum development, budget management, and community engagement, fostering an active teaching and learning community.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as leader, administrator, and evaluator of the Division and its programs.
  • Promote academic achievement and student satisfaction consistent with established education objectives, quality standards, and fiscal responsibility.
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned personnel.
  • Develop and administer budgets in areas of supervision.
  • Serve as liaison between the Division and the community college, university, community agencies, businesses, and other groups.
  • Seek and maintain degree program approval from licensing agencies and accreditation councils.
  • Provide academic and administrative leadership in planning, development, assessment of student learning, evaluation, and improvement of instructional areas within the assigned Division.
  • Evaluate department chairs and assist in establishing individual and department goals.
  • Approve full- and part-time faculty employment and supervise all faculty and staff.
  • Participate in annual performance evaluations and provide recommendations for faculty promotion and tenure.
  • Ensure that curriculum is current and meets community needs; initiate new programs as determined by strategic planning and needs assessments.
  • Encourage and oversee dual enrollment with local high schools and transfer initiatives with post-secondary institutions.
  • Communicate with the internal and external community regarding division and college activities and services.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to listen to new ideas.
  • Demonstrated skill in working effectively with personnel conflicts and concerns.
  • Ability to administer in a fair, thorough, and thoughtful way.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and deliver difficult messages sensibly.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in community college environments.
  • Knowledge of current trends in developmental education and general education.
  • Experience in developing, assessing, and evaluating instructional programs.
  • Familiarity with the mission of DACC and dedication to advancing the college's mission.
  • Strong background in building partnerships within the community.
  • Bilingual competence in Spanish and English.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $90,000 - $105,000 commensurate with experience.
