About the position

The Neighborhood & Community Engagement Planner is responsible for engaging with neighborhood associations, business associations, and community service organizations to foster communication and collaboration. This role involves outreach, planning, and support for community initiatives, requiring flexible hours to accommodate evening and weekend meetings. The planner will develop materials for public outreach, assist in neighborhood planning, and provide support services to enhance community engagement and quality of life.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with neighborhood associations and community organizations to promote outreach and engagement.
  • Develop digital and print materials for public communication and outreach.
  • Prepare reports, memos, and correspondence to facilitate communication between City departments and neighborhoods.
  • Maintain and update online educational resources and mailing lists.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of programs to strengthen relationships between community organizations.
  • Facilitate City-sponsored meetings and provide summaries to City personnel.
  • Conduct demographic research to assist in community engagement strategies.
  • Support neighborhood associations in their startup and reactivation efforts.
  • Provide regular status reports on neighborhood activation processes.
  • Attend and summarize neighborhood association meetings and other community events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, sociology, public administration, or related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with the public.
  • Practical knowledge of effective interpersonal communication principles.
  • Experience with neighborhood and business associations.
  • Knowledge of community service organizations and grant writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in facilitating meetings and workshops.
  • Ability to use audiovisual aids and computers for presentations.
  • Knowledge of grant fund administration.
