About the position

The Loader position at Talon Logistics, a subsidiary of Giant Eagle, offers an opportunity for individuals interested in driving to earn their CDL A license while working. This role involves the accurate and damage-free loading of products into trailers, ensuring timely deliveries to stores and promoting customer satisfaction. The position serves as a stepping stone to a full-time Driver role after completing the in-house training program.

Responsibilities

• Accurately and safely load products into trailers to meet store orders.
• Maintain flexibility in scheduling to meet production needs.
• Adhere to company policies, safety, and sanitation rules.
• Follow food safety procedures during loading operations.
• Regularly push, pull, lift, and carry up to 90 lbs. in compliance with safety rules.
• Operate electric pallet jack and radio frequency (RF) unit safely.
• Perform safety checks on equipment before starting assignments.
• Verify safety and security of dock doors and trailers before entry.
• Empty, clean, and sweep trailers before loading.
• Sort, load, and unload palletized products following proper procedures.
• Verify that each pallet is designated for the correct store before loading.
• Communicate with supervision regarding safety and equipment issues.
• Bring completed load paperwork to the office for processing.
• Unload non-palletized freight and backhauls as needed.
• Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must have a valid driver's license for at least two years prior to hire.
• Must have no commercial DUI/DWI on record.
• Must have no personal DUI/DWI on record within the previous 5 years.
• Ability to read and speak English.
• Ability to read and follow directions and have effective listening and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Electric pallet jack experience is a plus.
• Power Industrial Truck (PIT) certification is optional.
