About the position

The CDL Class A Delivery Driver plays a crucial role in the food supply chain by ensuring timely and safe delivery of food products to various customers, including restaurants and healthcare facilities. This position requires driving a tractor trailer or straight truck, adhering to DOT regulations, and maintaining professional relationships with customers while performing essential delivery tasks.

Responsibilities

• Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors, and co-workers professionally.
• Functions as a team member within the department and organization, performing any assigned duty.
• Performs all required safety checks including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations.
• Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required.
• Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies.
• Inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight.
• Performs count check of items and check customer invoices of products loaded.
• Completes all required paperwork associated with freight accurately.
• Moves tractor to the loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed.
• Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule.
• Unloads products from the trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas.
• Performs damage control checks on items and contacts supervisor about removing orders as per company policy.
• Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures.
• Collects money (cash or checks) where required and secures trailer doors.
• Unloads damaged goods and customer returns and completes necessary paperwork.
• Completes daily record of hours of service in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
• Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor and loading dock area.
• Secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork at the end of the shift.

Requirements

• 1 year commercial driving experience
• High school diploma/GED or state approved equivalent
• Valid CDL A
• Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements
• Must be 21 years of age
• Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years
• Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
• Pass road test
• Valid current DOT Health Card or able to secure new DOT Health Card
• Able to hand-lift and utilize equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight.

Nice-to-haves

• 1+ years Class A tractor trailer driving experience
• Foodservice delivery experience
• Onboard computer and electronic log system experience (i.e. PeopleNet)
• Hand-held point of delivery scanning system experience (i.e. POD)
• Customer service related work experience.
