The purpose of the CDL Driver position is to prepare, assemble, and install vehicle and/or chipper components to required specifications for Mechanical, Hydraulic, Electrical, Unit, and/or Finish departments. This role involves using and conducting proper care of personal protective equipment (PPE), reading and interpreting schematics and work orders, and utilizing basic hand tools such as tape measures and specialty equipment. The driver will also be responsible for learning and operating all equipment within the work area, performing rework as required, and supporting Altec Production System (APS) initiatives. Cross-training and moving to other work areas to support production needs may also be required. The position emphasizes safety, quality, and communication, ensuring that all job functions are performed with continuous attention to detail and adherence to established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Use and conduct proper care of PPE
  • Read and interpret schematics (blueprints)
  • Read and interpret work orders
  • Use basic hand tools such as tape measurer and specialty equipment
  • Learn and operate all equipment within the work area (cell)
  • Perform rework as required
  • Support APS (Altec Production System) initiatives
  • Participate in RCI (Rapid Continuous Improvement) events
  • Move to other work areas to support production needs (Cross-train)
  • Install unit vehicle and/or chipper components and accessories
  • Test installed components
  • Follow established safety, environmental and quality policies, procedures and practices
  • Maintain work area and shop tools/equipment
  • Maintain daily time records
  • Assist co-workers as needed
  • Keep a clean work area (5S)
  • May be required to learn Altec programs and/or systems
  • Shift work may be required

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend required
  • Basic computer usage knowledge desired
  • Vocational Training in lieu of experience will be considered
  • Ability to read tape measures, blue prints, and schematics desired
  • General knowledge of at least one of the following desired: Mechanical, Hydraulics, Electrical, Manufacturing / Production processes
