About the position

This position will require DOT regulation compliance to transport raw materials from various locations to the mills for processing. This individual must be able to work within a team environment, as well as independently. This position must demonstrate, through current and past experience, a keen awareness to safe defensive driving practices.

Responsibilities

• Conform to all DOT requirements in terms of maintaining a CDL (A) in acceptable standards including maintaining a current medical card.
• Schedule accordingly to bring logs/lumber into specified company yard location or destinations as specified on the BOL.
• Perform visual and physical inspection of the truck before driving, including checking engine oil level, fluid leaks, engine air pressure, running lights, tire inflation, and brakes.
• Conduct similar inspections for trailers, including tires, brakes, lights, landing gear, and air/electrical connectors.
• Know and use standardized industry-approved hand signals when necessary.
• Fuel up using personal and vehicle fuel cards, and reimburse if personal credit card is used.
• Follow accident procedures for both on and off highway incidents, including notifying authorities and filling out reports.
• Track daily driving in DOT log book when applicable.
• Communicate with loader operator for safety and proper unloading processes.
• Maintain clean equipment inside and out.
• Track service schedule for truck and assure proper maintenance of equipment.
• Maintain reports and paperwork for loads transported.
• Conduct investigations and complete proper reports for incidents, accidents, downtime, and near miss situations.
• Tie down, tarp, or cover product depending on the load.
• Be alert and courteous, obey all posted speed limits, and communicate hazards to other drivers and loader operators.
• Record start unladen mileage and weigh unit out on scales before departure.

Requirements

• Must have a valid CDL (A) license and maintain a current medical card.
• Must be physically capable of performing the tasks of a truck driver, including lifting 65-85 lbs.
• 1 year of commercial driving experience preferred.
• 1 year of general driving experience preferred.
