About the position

The CDOC CNA/Client Care Aide I position in Denver, Colorado, is responsible for providing medical assistance to patients in a clinical setting under the supervision of a registered nurse. This role involves assisting patients with daily living activities, obtaining vital signs, and maintaining patient care standards in a correctional environment. The position is crucial for ensuring the health and well-being of inmates while adhering to safety and security protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, and toileting.
  • Obtain and record vital signs for review by nursing staff.
  • Provide assistance with patient transfers and turning in bed.
  • Report changes in patient condition to the registered nurse.
  • Empty catheter bags and record intake and output.
  • Engage with patients to maintain orientation to person, place, and time.
  • Respond to call lights and inmate requests for assistance.
  • Assist with meal distribution and change linens as per schedule.
  • Perform dressing changes and basic medical procedures under supervision.
  • Maintain accountability for tools and materials used in patient care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid, active Nurse Aide Certification (CNA) from the State of Colorado is mandatory.
  • Ability to work with inmates of diverse backgrounds and functional levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to read and comprehend the English language.
  • Strong understanding of multi-disciplinary health care delivery systems.
  • Ability to problem-solve and work effectively in a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience providing certified nursing assistance in a correctional environment.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certifications.
  • Experience working with patients with multiple disabilities.
  • Experience with the senior population and hospice care.
