About the position

The Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) is seeking a dedicated and motivated Talent Acquisition Specialist to join our Office of Human Resources (OHR) in Colorado Springs. This position plays a crucial role in enhancing the recruitment and retention strategies for the department, which is the largest state agency in Colorado, employing nearly 6,500 individuals across 20 facilities and 19 parole offices. The Talent Acquisition Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing innovative recruitment strategies that align with the organizational needs of CDOC, particularly focusing on hard-to-fill positions. This role requires a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in recruitment practices, ensuring that these principles are integrated into all hiring processes. In this fast-paced and friendly environment, the Talent Acquisition Specialist will utilize various strategies to promote careers within CDOC through social media, virtual events, and in-person engagements. The position involves frequent travel throughout the state and occasional travel outside of Colorado, necessitating flexibility in work hours, including potential responsibilities outside of normal business hours. The successful candidate will be expected to create a pipeline of qualified candidates, monitor compensation and job market trends, and establish partnerships with workforce centers, colleges, and other organizations to attract diverse talent. The role also includes responsibilities such as developing and maintaining a comprehensive tracking system for recruitment efforts, conducting follow-ups with hiring managers to assess the effectiveness of recruiting strategies, and planning specific initiatives to engage potential candidates. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, creativity, and a deep understanding of marketing strategies and workforce trends, enabling them to effectively influence diverse audiences and promote the values of CDOC.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize strategies to contribute to the CDOC Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Plan deliverables and goals.
  • Promote careers through social media, virtual and in-person events.
  • Develop and implement innovative recruitment strategies aligned with organizational needs.
  • Provide cutting-edge recruitment and retention strategies through innovation and technology.
  • Research trends with measurable results and data oversight.
  • Assist with developing, coordinating, and recommending changes for workflow improvements.
  • Monitor compensation and job market trends for effective recruitment and retention.
  • Establish networking partnerships with workforce centers, colleges, and military transition specialists.
  • Create a pipeline of qualified candidates for open continuous job postings.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive tracking system for recruitment efforts.
  • Conduct regular follow-ups with managers to determine the effectiveness of recruiting efforts.
  • Plan and coordinate specific recruiting initiatives such as hiring events and facility tours.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of full-time professional work experience in recruiting, marketing, human resources, or law enforcement/corrections.
  • Strong 'people' skills and flexibility to reach all audiences.
  • Creativity and ability to be innovative.
  • Self-directed, motivated, resourceful, and detail-oriented.
  • Strong understanding of marketing strategies, compensation trends, and workforce trends.
  • Tech savvy and well-versed in graphic software and web-based applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to positively influence diverse audiences.

  • Ability to read and comprehend the English language and communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing.
