About the position

The Human Resource Specialist III (Labor Relations Consultant) position within the Colorado Department of Corrections focuses on fostering collaborative labor-management relationships and providing expert guidance on labor relations issues. This role involves supporting management and employees in navigating labor relations challenges, ensuring compliance with policies, and promoting a harmonious work environment. The position is integral to the Office of Human Resources, which is committed to outstanding customer service and continuous improvement in processes.

Responsibilities

  • Support management, employees, and external customers while promoting cooperative relationships.
  • Serve as the liaison supporting stakeholders with labor relation issues.
  • Provide expertise in employee coaching, progressive discipline, and grievances.
  • Conduct initial interviews and gather information for labor relations matters.
  • Collect information and data to assist HR Management on policy implications of negotiations and disputes.
  • Provide guidance on the labor relations dispute process and DOC policy interpretation.
  • Advise on the intent, interpretation, and application of partnership agreements and policies.
  • Coordinate employee designation notifications and training for employees and supervisors.
  • Provide formal and informal training regarding labor relations processes.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Six (6) years of full-time professional experience performing Human Resources functions.
  • A combination of related education and/or relevant professional Human Resources experience equal to six (6) years.
  • Strong personal accountability and ability to build excellent working relationships.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to read and comprehend the English language.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in gathering, researching, and reporting statistical data in a human resources environment.
  • Experience working in a labor relations environment.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience working in NEOGOV.
  • Any HR related certifications such as SHRM-CP/PHR.
  • Experience in civil service/merit processes.
