About the position

Sompo International is seeking a Ceded Re Operations Data Analyst to join our Ceded Reinsurance team, which is part of the Change Management Department within the Ceded Reinsurance Function. This role is pivotal in driving innovation and transformation within the team as we aim to develop and implement strategic initiatives that enhance the efficiency and productivity of the Ceded Reinsurance Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching systems solutions, evaluating their impacts, and making recommendations for system implementations. Additionally, the role involves designing and developing solutions that improve team productivity. The ideal candidate will possess a strong analytical background and experience in system development, particularly using SQL, VBA, and other development tools. Strong communication skills are essential, as the role requires collaboration with various stakeholders across business units, including finance, accounting, and operations. The position is based in our New York City office, where we foster a collaborative work environment that supports employee growth and career development. Key responsibilities include operational ownership and development of reinsurance tools and applications, supporting corporate data transformation projects, conducting thorough data analysis, and developing user requirements for systems in production. The analyst will also be involved in user acceptance testing (UAT), creating task plans for projects, and ensuring compliance with internal audit and SOX control standards. Responsibilities

  • Operational ownership, design, and development for reinsurance tools and applications such as the Ceded Reinsurance Tool and fac reinsurance control.
  • Collaborate in the design and development of new tools and applications for catastrophe processing and reporting.
  • Support corporate data transformation projects from inception to implementation, including reinsurance impact analysis and testing.
  • Design process enhancements, research and document business issues, develop business requirements, create test case documentation, and training/procedural materials.
  • Determine and develop user requirements for systems in production to ensure maximum usability.
  • Conduct thorough data analysis, reconciliations, and validations to support system enhancement and process improvements.
  • Develop test scenarios, execute test cases, document outcomes, and manage defect resolution.
  • Create and maintain plans for every project, ensuring transparent communication at all levels.
  • Partner with stakeholders across business units to develop analyses and documentation in a collaborative way, communicating effectively with operational and managerial teams.
  • Design and implement process controls that meet IAD and SOX control standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with business analysis and controls & compliance in Financial services, accounting, treasury, insurance, or reinsurance industry.
  • Strong data analysis and reconciliation skills along with strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in SQL, VBA, and other programming languages as well as expertise in Microsoft Office applications, including Access, Excel, and Visio.
  • Ability to produce comprehensive process documentation and reports.
  • Demonstrated success in detailed analysis, user testing, and process improvement initiatives with a strong track record in requirement gathering, documentation, and test case development.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating with IT departments in large corporate environments.
  • Proven experience in managing change for enterprise-wide systems.
  • Flexibility and adeptness at balancing multiple priorities in a dynamic setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry is preferred.
  • Familiarity with catastrophe processing and reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of internal audit and SOX compliance standards.
