About the position

The City of Attleboro Police Department is seeking a per diem Cell Attendant to assist with the care and custody of individuals arrested or detained in police custody. This role involves monitoring detainees, ensuring their well-being, and maintaining the security of the cell facility under the supervision of the on-duty shift commander.

Responsibilities

  • Assist police officers with booking and searching detainees.
  • Make rounds every 15 minutes for visual checks and monitor the well-being of persons held in the cell facility.
  • Check the cell facility, cells, and areas of detention for unauthorized items, contraband, and damage.
  • Conduct searches of prisoners as directed.
  • Utilize electronic equipment to record visual well-being checks.
  • Provide food and other necessities to detainees.
  • Report unruly or hostile behavior by a prisoner to the shift commander.
  • Report any suicide attempts or ideation to the shift commander.
  • Prepare reports as assigned.
  • Appear in court as a witness when required.
  • Be responsible for the well-being of lost or abused children brought into the station.
  • Comply with Department directives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
  • Required to maintain high confidentiality.
  • Understanding of State and local laws and regulations, department policies and procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to observe and remember facts and details of incidents.
  • Ability to write clear, accurate, and grammatically correct reports.
