About the position

The Cement Mason/Concrete Finisher position involves performing a variety of physical tasks related to concrete structures and flat work finishing for heavy civil construction projects. This role requires a strong willingness to work in a field environment, which may expose the worker to various weather conditions such as rain, dust, mud, heat, sun, cold, and noise, all of which are common on construction sites. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate effectively as part of a team, ensuring the delivery of quality products and maintaining high standards of customer service while adhering to safety protocols at all times. Key responsibilities include setting forms, pouring, smoothing, and finishing concrete for sidewalks, roads, curbs, and other structures using both hand and powered tools such as floats and trowels. The role also involves bolting, nailing, aligning, and blocking under forms, leveling earth to fine grade specifications using picks and shovels, and spraying materials like paint to coat or seal surfaces. Maintaining a clean construction site free of debris is essential, as is conducting traffic control when necessary. The position may also require occasional driving of a truck to pick up tools and equipment or to transport them to job sites. It is crucial that all safety and incident reporting procedures are followed diligently to ensure a safe working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set forms for concrete structures and flat work.
  • Pour, smooth, and finish concrete sidewalks, roads, curbs, etc.
  • Bolt, nail, align, and block under forms.
  • Level earth to fine grade specifications using pick and shovel.
  • Spray materials such as paint to coat or seal surfaces.
  • Keep construction site clean and free of debris.
  • Conduct traffic control as needed.
  • Occasionally drive a truck to pick up tools and equipment or on job site.
  • Ensure proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.

Requirements

  • Lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
  • Stand and walk on job sites and roadways.
  • Crouch and stoop while shoveling, placing, and finishing concrete.
  • Perform a variety of tasks involving dexterous use of hands and tools.
  • Lay out string line and set form lumber to grade.
  • Carry and set form lumber and drive wood or iron stakes.
  • Good communication skills to work effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Drive a truck on job site or to pick up tools/equipment for the job.
  • Communicate effectively in English.
  • Experience finishing concrete on heavy civil construction projects.
  • Valid CA driver's license or ability to obtain one prior to employment with a clean driving record.
