The Cement Mason/Concrete Finisher position involves performing a variety of physical tasks related to concrete structures and flat work finishing for heavy civil construction projects. This role requires a strong willingness to work in a field environment, which may expose the worker to various weather conditions such as rain, dust, mud, heat, sun, cold, and noise, all of which are common on construction sites. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate effectively as part of a team, ensuring the delivery of quality products and maintaining high standards of customer service while adhering to safety protocols at all times. Key responsibilities include setting forms, pouring, smoothing, and finishing concrete for sidewalks, roads, curbs, and other structures using both hand and powered tools such as floats and trowels. The role also involves bolting, nailing, aligning, and blocking under forms, leveling earth to fine grade specifications using picks and shovels, and spraying materials like paint to coat or seal surfaces. Maintaining a clean construction site free of debris is essential, as is conducting traffic control when necessary. The position may also require occasional driving of a truck to pick up tools and equipment or to transport them to job sites.
