About the position

The Instrument Technician at Martin Marietta is responsible for maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting process control instrumentation to ensure optimal production efficiency. This role involves working under the supervision of the Instrument Superintendent and requires a strong understanding of safety, equipment care, and quality production principles.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, and calibrates process control and instrumentation equipment including flow meters, thermocouples, RTDs, transmitters, weigh feeders, DC drives, AC drives, VFDs, and emissions analyzers.
  • Calibrates and maintains all emissions analyzers in accordance with service manuals and regulatory permit requirements.
  • Troubleshoots and maintains process network including switches, routers, and cabling.
  • Maintains an instrument logbook on all maintenance activity.
  • Ensures process control data is being recorded, backed-up, and archived.
  • Performs maintenance on both new and existing instrument equipment.
  • Provides leadership and assists in technical training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of college, technical school, or service training pertaining to instrumentation and electronic technology or four years of related field experience as an instrumentation technician.
  • Industrial instrumentation experience preferred.
  • Good knowledge of industrial and electrical safety including lock-out procedures and arc flash protection.
  • Knowledgeable in electronics, computers, basic operating systems software (Microsoft Server, Windows XP & Windows 7, 10, and MS Office), network TCP/IP, process analyzers, electrical controls, and process control.
  • Knowledge of plant and equipment layout, basic cement manufacture, cement process parameters, and electrical standards and codes.
  • Ability to read and understand operating manuals, P&ID, electrical, and hydraulic schematics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain hydraulic systems and PLCs.

Nice-to-haves
