About the position

The Center Manager for the Early Head Start Program is responsible for overseeing the entire operation of the center, ensuring that all program policies and procedures are implemented effectively. This role requires a deep understanding of the philosophy and practices of Head Start or similar child development programs, as well as expertise in early childhood education and developmentally appropriate practices. The Center Manager will work closely with staff to provide a high-quality program that meets the needs of infants and toddlers, fostering an environment that promotes their growth and development. Key responsibilities include staff supervision and professional development, where the Center Manager will hire, mentor, and coach center staff, conduct evaluations, and ensure compliance with all necessary documentation. The role also involves training teaching staff on various assessment tools and conducting ongoing observations to enhance classroom practices. The Center Manager will meet regularly with Lead Teachers to discuss classroom observations, policies, and professional development plans, ensuring that all staff are compliant with program policies and maintaining confidentiality as required by law. In addition to staff management, the Center Manager will be responsible for compliance and reporting, ensuring adherence to OHS and EEC regulations, and maintaining accurate employee files. The role requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, making significant decisions to ensure the health and safety of children and families. Administrative duties include managing classroom activities, planning field trips, maintaining inventory, and facilitating staff and parent meetings. The Center Manager will also engage with families and the community, encouraging parent involvement and developing relationships with outside agencies to provide additional services.

Responsibilities

  • Implement program policies and procedures for the center.
  • Oversee the overall operation of the center, ensuring high-quality programming.
  • Hire, mentor, and coach center staff in a team setting.
  • Conduct bi-monthly and annual evaluations of staff performance.
  • Approve timesheets, leave, and reimbursement requests for staff.
  • Train teaching staff on assessment tools like CLASS, ITERS, ECERS, and QRIS.
  • Conduct ongoing observations of teachers and provide feedback on curriculum and classroom management.
  • Meet with Lead Teachers bi-monthly for supervision meetings to discuss observations and professional development plans.
  • Create Professional Development Plans (PDPs) for teachers based on observations and needs.
  • Ensure compliance with OHS and EEC regulations and maintain confidentiality of records.
  • Plan and coordinate field trips and maintain center inventory.
  • Facilitate staff meetings and parent meetings to enhance engagement.
  • Work with family service workers to encourage parent involvement in the program.
  • Develop relationships with outside agencies for additional services and community outreach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred.
  • Must meet Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (DEEC) Director II qualifications.
  • Three years of experience in direct supervision and program management in Early Childhood Education.
  • Knowledge of DEEC regulations and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Strong time management skills and a positive work ethic.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
