About the position

The Center Operations Manager position at the USO is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the operations of one or more USO Centers. This includes managing programs, events, and activities at the Center(s) and ensuring that the facilities are effective, inviting, safe, clean, and well-maintained. The Center Operations Manager will lead a team of operational staff and volunteers, providing guidance and support in the planning and execution of various programs and events. This role is essential in evaluating and modifying existing programs while also planning and implementing new initiatives that align with the USO's mission. In this position, the manager will be tasked with ensuring that all equipment is clean and functioning properly, while also enforcing adherence to sanitary guidelines and food-handling regulations. The role requires leading the planning, quality, and delivery of programs both on and off U.S. military installations, ensuring that services and events are delivered within budget limits. The Center Operations Manager will also be responsible for identifying and implementing operational improvements that meet USO standards of excellence. Additionally, the manager will coach and mentor USO Center staff, oversee volunteer schedules, and maintain relationships with vendors and local contractors. The role involves creating and enforcing Standard Operating Procedures and ensuring compliance with the Emergency Preparedness Plan. Financial responsibilities include creating and executing operating budgets, managing cash, and preparing various reports. The Center Operations Manager will also work closely with military and community leaders to enhance awareness and support for the USO mission, ensuring successful program delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operations of one or more USO Centers, ensuring they are effective, inviting, safe, clean, and well-maintained.
  • Lead the planning, quality, and delivery of programs on and off U.S. military installations.
  • Deliver services, equipment, and events within budget limits.
  • Identify and implement operational and program improvements that achieve USO standards of excellence.
  • Act as a resource for USO Center staff and volunteers in planning and executing special events.
  • Review program and service needs and recommend new programs based on research.
  • Coach and mentor USO Center staff and oversee volunteer activities, recruitment, training, and recognition.
  • Create, maintain, and enforce adherence to Standard Operating Procedures and the Emergency Preparedness Plan.
  • Monitor financial activities, including creating and executing operating budgets and managing cash.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with U.S. Military, local community leadership, partners, and donors.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of work experience in a business operations role, event management, or marketing role, including 1+ years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and various software applications.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with tact and poise.
  • Working knowledge of basic business and accounting functions, including project management and budgeting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a non-profit, military, multicultural, and/or global organization preferred.
  • Fluency in English; ability to speak, read, and write in the language of the host country at the native level preferred.
  • Experience with Digital Cheetah preferred.
