About the position

The Central Office Technician in the Power function at Verizon is responsible for ensuring the reliability and readiness of the network by monitoring and maintaining the switching infrastructure. This role involves hands-on technical expertise to activate, test, and maintain central office equipment, ensuring the safety and efficiency of power systems. The technician will work collaboratively with a team to support the operational needs of the network, contributing to Verizon's mission of providing top-tier connectivity solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Activating, monitoring, testing and maintenance of central office infrastructure equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and preventative maintenance of power, fuel, and alarming systems.
  • Acting as a first responder to ensure network safety and reliability.
  • Analyzing defects and installing and maintaining power plant circuits and equipment, including diesel engines and generators.
  • Maintaining detailed equipment records and maintenance logs.
  • Climbing ladders, working aloft, perceiving differences in wire and cable colors, and moving/lifting items generally not exceeding 100 lbs.
  • Working evenings, weekends, holidays and unscheduled shifts as determined by the needs of the business.

Requirements

  • Valid state driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • A related Associate Degree or 2 or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience as an ASE Diesel Certified Mechanic.
  • An Electrician's License.
