About the position

The Central Operations Assistant Manager (Program Manager I) at the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) is responsible for overseeing and improving customer service operations within the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA). This role involves managing projects, directing supervisors, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of services related to driver licensing and vehicle registration.

Responsibilities

  • Learning, investigating, and improving upon current practices in a rapidly changing customer-friendly environment.
  • Organizing, budgeting, evaluating, and implementing projects and programs for assigned division.
  • Directing and motivating supervisors in activities pertaining to implementing new legislation, rewriting contracts, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Researching ways to improve the customer experience, including information security and road safety.
  • Working closely with colleagues from other areas of MDOT, external entities, and other agencies to achieve the vision of connecting customers to life's opportunities.
  • Providing unique policy and research support to MVA branch locations and customers on issues related to driver licensing and vehicle registration.
  • Executing change in a fast-paced environment to increase efficiency and promote premier customer service.
  • Utilization and development of staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Four years of professional level experience providing oversight for programs, initiatives, or projects and directing or leading teams, with two years in a managerial capacity.
  • Strong operational and leadership background, preferably in a regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organization and resource allocation skills.
  • Strong customer service background.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, administer, and implement state and federal regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of COMAR and Motor Vehicle laws, rules, and regulations.
