About the position

The Central Region Emergency Medicine Chief Advanced Practitioner will provide leadership and management for the Emergency Departments across multiple hospitals in the Central Region. This role involves overseeing advanced practice staff, ensuring compliance with departmental policies, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance emergency services. The Chief AP will also focus on education, quality assurance, and recruitment of advanced practitioners, while acting as a liaison with hospital administration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide local leadership, management, and support for the Emergency Department(s) as assigned.
  • Report directly to the system Chief AP for Emergency Medicine.
  • Work cooperatively with the local/regional ED Medical Director, Operations personnel, nursing staff, and other departments.
  • Provide leadership, planning, organization, scheduling, and assurance of staffing for ED activities.
  • Develop workflow processes and departmental initiatives in collaboration with EM leadership.
  • Supervise and evaluate advanced practitioners in clinical and administrative duties.
  • Act as liaison with hospital administration and other clinical departments when delegated.
  • Promote a collaborative, interdisciplinary ED leadership team.
  • Ensure departmental policies are known, understood, and implemented by advanced practitioners.
  • Participate in the education and training of newly hired APs and conduct yearly evaluations.
  • Arrange off-service procedural experience and assure compliance with credentialing requirements.
  • Participate in the recruitment and retention of qualified advanced practitioners.
  • Act as ambassador to patients and families while addressing grievances and complaints.
  • Manage payroll through Kronos.
  • Direct and participate in continuing education of emergency medicine advanced practitioners and staff.
  • Maintain and update expertise in the field through self-education and CME activities.
  • Collaborate with ED leadership to ensure departmental performance meets standards.

Requirements

  • Board Certification as either a physician assistant or nurse practitioner and an active Pennsylvania State license required.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as an advanced practitioner with a minimum of 2 years experience in emergency medicine.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience as a physician assistant or nurse practitioner in Emergency Medicine.
  • Exceptional supervisory, leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
