About the position

The Central Registry Cancer Specialist II plays a critical role in supporting the New York State Cancer Registry by assessing, consolidating, and entering cancer-related data into computerized records. This position is essential for understanding cancer rates and trends, informing health policy, and targeting high-risk populations in New York State.

Responsibilities

• Assess data for accuracy and completeness.
• Consolidate cancer-related data from various sources.
• Diagnose and repair data entry errors.
• Enter accurate data into computerized records for the New York State Cancer Registry.
• Support epidemiological research and evaluation of cancer control interventions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or an Associate's degree with two years of experience in an Allied Health field, or four years of experience in an Allied Health field.
• Certification as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) required by the end of the probationary period.
• Knowledge of biology, anatomy, and/or physiology.

Nice-to-haves

• RHIT and/or RHIA designation.
• Experience working in a hospital tumor registry or a central cancer registry.
• Experience coding cancer using ICD-O-3 or related ICD codes.
