About the position

The Central Registry Field Representative will work within the Bureau of Cancer Epidemiology at Health Research, Inc. This role is focused on gathering and maintaining cancer data from various reporting facilities, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to fulfill the New York State Cancer Registry's mandate. The position plays a crucial role in determining cancer rates and trends, health policy planning, and epidemiological research.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and maintain cancer data from reporting facilities.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of cancer data.
  • Interpret information from various reports and spreadsheets.
  • Work with assigned groups of facilities such as hospitals and medical offices.
  • Fulfill the New York State Cancer Registry's mandate to reduce the burden of cancer among New Yorkers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and one year of relevant experience; OR a Bachelor's degree in a related field and Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification; OR an Associate's degree in a related field and three years of relevant experience; OR an Associate's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience and ODS certification; OR four years of relevant experience and an ODS certification.
  • Relevant experience includes medical/disease abstraction or coding, data analysis of health information, quality assurance of health information, healthcare or public health administration, public health education, or professional patient care.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a state/central tumor registry or hospital tumor registry.
  • Experience using Excel or Access.
  • Knowledge of the cancer disease process and medical terminology.
  • Experience providing professional-level training in health.
  • Experience with quality assurance and auditing for completeness and accuracy.
  • Experience developing written communications such as procedures and reports.
