About The Position

The Central Service Technician L II position at NYC Health + Hospitals is responsible for the cleaning, sterilization, and preparation of medical equipment and instruments used in medical procedures. This role is crucial in ensuring that all surgical and treatment supplies are properly decontaminated and ready for use, adhering to strict infection control and safety protocols.

Requirements

• Hold and maintain a Certified Registered Central Service Technician credential issued by the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician credential issued by the Certifying Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
• Complete ten (10) hours of continuing education credits annually to remain qualified.

Responsibilities

• Perform and participate in the decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of instruments and equipment.
• Practice infection control, asepsis techniques, and isolation procedures in accordance with departmental policy and procedures.
• Perform High Level Disinfection with Cidex OPA Solution, ensuring Quality Assurance Tests are completed and protective equipment is worn.
• Collect soiled instruments from various clinics and departments; operate machines such as washer/sterilizer, steam sterilizer, ultrasonic, Automatic Endoscopic Reprocessor, and sterrard sterilizers to clean, reprocess High Level Disinfect and sterilize instruments for re-use according to manufacturer's IFU.
• Assemble surgical and treatment sets and trays as prescribed by procedure.
