About the position
The Central Services Specialist at Bronson Methodist Hospital is a certified technician responsible for processing complex medical instrumentation, including endoscopes and specialized instrument sets. This role involves providing in-service education to staff, maintaining equipment, and ensuring the availability of necessary instruments for surgical procedures. The specialist collaborates with clinical teams to promote safe and efficient patient care.
Responsibilities
- Process complex instrumentation including flexible and rigid endoscopes and specialized instrument sets.
- Assist in providing in-service education to staff on new instruments and processing techniques.
- Order specialty instrumentation and assist with preventative maintenance on power equipment.
- Send instrumentation out for repairs and maintain par levels of backup instrumentation.
- Coordinate with the Lead Technician and Clinical Specialists to ensure safe and efficient care.
- Demonstrate the ability to clean, decontaminate, inspect, store, and prepare endoscopes.
- Troubleshoot and maintain equipment used for high-level disinfection and sterilization.
- Review surgical schedules to ensure necessary items are ready before procedures.
- Provide in-service education on the care and use of instrumentation and equipment.
- Monitor instruments and equipment that are down for repair.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 3-5 years of experience in a Central Services/Sterile Processing unit.
- Certified Surgical Technologist or Certified Central Services Technician certification required.
- Knowledge and experience in the care of endoscopic, power, and robotic instruments.
- Experience with processing flexible endoscopes.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
