About the position

The Full-Time Writer position at West Coast Preps involves covering high school sports across Northern California. The role focuses on creating engaging content that highlights the achievements of young athletes and their communities. The writer will be responsible for attending events, conducting interviews, and contributing to the digital content strategy, all while maintaining high journalistic standards.

Responsibilities

• Write and publish high-quality articles, features, and reports on high school sports events, athletes, and trends.
• Attend and cover high school sports games, tournaments, and other related events across Northern California.
• Conduct interviews with athletes, coaches, and other key figures in the high school sports community.
• Stay informed about the latest developments and trends in high school sports, ensuring accurate and up-to-date reporting.
• Work closely with the editorial team to develop content ideas and editorial calendars.
• Contribute to West Coast Preps' social media presence by sharing articles, engaging with followers, and promoting content.
• Collaborate with photographers, videographers, and graphic designers to enhance articles with multimedia elements.
• Meet tight deadlines while maintaining the highest standards of journalistic integrity and accuracy.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in sports writing or journalism, preferably with a focus on high school sports.
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
• Strong understanding of AP Style.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in using content management systems (CMS) and social media platforms.

Nice-to-haves

• Photography and/or video editing skills are a plus.
