About the position

The Centralized Credit Underwriter position at Mariner Finance is a full-time, non-exempt role that involves underwriting branch credit applications in a timely manner and communicating decisions to branch managers. The position requires a thorough understanding of the company's lending policies and the ability to assist the branch network in servicing existing and potential customers. The Underwriter will be responsible for analyzing credit applications, extending credit through various lending programs, and staying updated on any changes to lending policies. Additionally, the role involves administrative support for the Central Credit Manager, including completing reports and initiating contact with branches to gather additional financial information and resolve issues. The Underwriter will also have the authority to approve exceptions to policy as authorized by the Central Credit Manager, based on customer needs and related factors. Providing exceptional service to both internal and external customers is a key aspect of this role, ensuring timely and accurate resolution of service and policy-related situations. In the absence of the manager, the Underwriter will coordinate daily operational issues with the Assistant Vice President of Centralized Credit. The position may also require additional functions depending on market demand and staffing to maintain consistent quality customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite branch credit applications according to Mariner Finance lending policy.
  • Inform branch managers of underwriting decisions in a timely manner.
  • Assist the branch network with service to existing and potential customers.
  • Stay updated with lending policy and any changes made.
  • Assist the Central Credit Manager with administrative work for existing and potential customers.
  • Complete reports and initiate contact with branches to acquire additional financial information.
  • Resolve issues related to service and policy for customers with exceptional timeliness and accuracy.
  • Analyze customer documents and additional verifications when necessary.
  • Coordinate functions and daily operational issues in the manager's absence.
  • Provide consistent quality customer service based on market demand.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or two years of college coursework in Business Administration, Accounting, Marketing, Finance, or Economics; or completion of a lending training program within the past three years.
  • Minimum of two years of experience underwriting personal loans.
  • Knowledge of lending and fair practice and ethics in consumer finance.
  • Exceptional customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the sales and/or financial services industry.
  • Familiarity with various lending programs and policies.
