About the position

The Ceramic/Chemical Engineer for the Tank Department at Vitro is responsible for directing the batching, melting, and forming operations of glass production. This role ensures that production meets safety, quality, and efficiency goals while managing the operations of two high-capacity tanks. The engineer will collaborate with various departments to optimize processes and improve glass quality, while also overseeing staff training and safety programs.

Responsibilities

  • Direct batching, melting, and forming operations in the Tank Department.
  • Coordinate and direct production activities of the batch plant, tanks, baths, and lehrs.
  • Make decisions to meet unit goals regarding safety, quality, production, costs, and productivity.
  • Conduct frequent tours of the department to engage with supervisors and production engineers.
  • Review and analyze production and quality reports, taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Maintain communication with the Wareroom, Quality Control, and other staff functions to ensure efficient operations.
  • Make recommendations for new methods, equipment, and improvements in glass quality.
  • Inspect tank refractory structures and coordinate ordering of materials and supplies.
  • Stay updated on technological improvements and develop new methods to enhance operations.
  • Coordinate manpower scheduling and administer training and safety programs.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in ceramic or chemical engineering.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in production or process engineering, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
  • General knowledge of float glass batch, melting, and forming processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative ability.
  • Solid supervisory skills.

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment related to glass production.
  • Familiarity with safety and training programs in an industrial setting.
