About the position

The Ceramic/Chemical Junior Engineer position at Vitro involves directing the batching, melting, and forming operations within the Tank Department. The role is crucial for meeting plant goals related to safety, quality, production, costs, productivity, and employee relations. The engineer will work closely with production teams to ensure efficient operations and implement improvements in glass quality and production processes.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and direct production activities of the batch plant, tanks, baths, and lehrs.
  • Make decisions to meet unit goals and ensure efficient operations.
  • Conduct frequent tours of the department to engage with Supervisors and other production engineers.
  • Review and analyze production and quality reports, taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Maintain communication with the Wareroom, Quality Control, and other staff functions to improve performance.
  • Make recommendations for new methods, equipment, and improvements in the Department and glass quality.
  • Inspect the tank refractory structure and coordinate the ordering of materials and supplies.
  • Stay updated on technological improvements through contact with Vitro Research and other facilities.
  • Develop new methods or changes to equipment to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Help coordinate manpower scheduling and administer training and safety programs.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in ceramic or chemical engineering.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in production or process engineering, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
  • General knowledge of float glass batch, melting, and forming processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative ability.
  • Ability to make decisions in rapidly changing conditions.
