About the position

The Ceramic Process Engineer, also known as Process Owner, is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the consistent execution of major ceramic manufacturing processes at the Investment Casting Foundry in Schenectady. This role involves identifying and controlling executional variations in processes, working closely with operators and management to improve efficiency and quality while maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all equipment operates as designed, including safety features.
  • Train operators on equipment safety features.
  • Contribute to Management of Change, Safety Risk Assessments, and LOTO on new equipment.
  • Understand the operation and limitations of each piece of equipment.
  • Establish process controls to reduce process excursions through data analysis.
  • Perform engineering trials to evaluate process improvements and implement fixtures/jigs/tooling.
  • Standardize processes and ensure their proper functioning.
  • Define, update, and revise work instructions and procedures for consistent task performance by operators.
  • Conduct periodic audits and collaborate with QA and Product Engineers to meet customer requirements.
  • Develop PFMEA and MCP for owned processes.
  • Monitor processes daily and lead process improvement initiatives to maintain budgeted FPY.
  • Participate in new part introduction teams as needed.
  • Engage in cost reduction efforts and reduce scrap through investigation and problem-solving.
  • Ensure timely completion of PM for owned equipment and assist with machine failure diagnostics.
  • Lead maintenance initiatives to achieve budgeted OA.
  • Interface daily with manufacturing, management, and product teams to establish operator skill levels and create a skills assessment tool.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or technical field/related area.
  • Minimum of 3 years in manufacturing operations/production, with at least 2 years focusing on process control.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2+ years of experience with new product design and processing of ceramic core production for investment castings.
  • Demonstrated success in a rapidly growing, fast-paced, and competitive environment.
  • Effective written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience with statistical and process improvement tools such as 6-sigma, Minitab, SPC.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks or projects and develop/lead action plans.
