About the position

The Certified Athletic Trainer Mentor at MedStar Health is responsible for providing expert medical coverage and support to athletes, ensuring their health and safety through preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, and rehabilitation of injuries. This role emphasizes collaboration with physicians and community outreach to promote wellness and prevent injuries across various active populations. The position requires a commitment to professional development and adherence to the standards set by NATABOC.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assessments of injured athletes onsite at the training facility as needed, including review of pertinent history information and performance of specific assessments.
  • Actively attend and represent MedStar National Rehabilitation Network at seasonal parent nights, coaches meetings, booster club meetings, contract meetings, and ATC staff meetings.
  • Initiate the referral process to navigate outreach community through the MedStar National Rehabilitation Network system to increase volumes.
  • Use the chain of command and protocol in injury management appropriately.
  • Determine individuals' readiness to participate in athletic activities.
  • Effectively communicate with athletes, their families, and staff regarding the athlete's status.
  • Prevent, recognize, evaluate, and provide immediate care, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletic injuries/illnesses.
  • Provide athletic medicine coverage for events affiliated with MedStar National Rehabilitation Network, such as camps, tournaments, health fairs, and educational classes.
  • Maintain accountability for individual administrative requirements, including site-specific schedules, reporting, tracking, and employee compliance.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, workshops, and independent learning experiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in athletic training from an accredited college or university.
  • Certified as an ATC by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
  • CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Eligible for ATC license in Maryland and Virginia and eligible to practice in the District of Columbia.
  • 1-2 years of experience preferred.

  • Master's degree preferred.
