About the position
The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician. This role requires the ability to function under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager, and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving, all in accordance with hospital, nursing, and unit policy/procedure. Certified Medical Assistants work all three shifts, weekends, and holidays, with individual shift rotation and schedules established with the specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct, age-specific care to patients based on medical orders and care plans.
- Function under the direction of licensed independent practitioners, managers, and/or RNs.
- Handle, transport, access, and/or contact medications and related supplies as needed.
Requirements
- Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association.
- One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if not a graduate of a medical assistant program.
- No work experience required if a graduate of a medical assistant program.
- Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft and email.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
- Previous experience in an academic health care environment.
- Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study.
