About the position

The Certified Coder - Radiology position at Washington University in St. Louis involves reviewing medical record documentation to determine appropriate billing codes and necessary documentation. The role requires collaboration with physicians to ensure accurate coding and compliance with documentation requirements, while also assisting other coders in the department.

Responsibilities

  • Review documentation in medical records to identify pertinent facts for coding diagnoses and procedures.
  • Code evaluation and management to appropriate CPT codes and diagnoses to appropriate ICD-9 codes.
  • Meet with physicians to review documentation, resolve coding issues, and secure signatures for unsigned dates of service.
  • Act as a lead person and assist coders with medical terminology and policy interpretation as required.
  • Assist in increasing physician awareness of documentation requirements.
  • Prepare case reports and initiate follow-up for the billing process.

Requirements

  • Must have one of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (CCA, CCS, or CCS-P); AAPC (CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, CPC-H-A, or specialty-specific coding credentials).
  • No specific work experience is required for this position.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous coding experience or equivalent experience to an associate's degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • Skills in Computer Systems, ICD-10 Procedure Coding System, Medical Billing and Coding, Medical Terminology.
