About the position

The Certified Instructor position involves conducting certified instruction in protective force specialties and leadership training. The role requires developing training materials, providing classroom instruction, assessing student performance, and ensuring compliance with safety policies. The instructor will also participate in drills and exercises, and may serve as a lead or assistant instructor.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct certified instruction in protective force specialties and leadership training.
  • Develop training materials utilizing the Instructional System Design (ISD) process.
  • Provide classroom instruction demonstrations, exercises, and lectures for protective force and support staff.
  • Assess student understanding and performance through observation, testing, and other methods.
  • Provide objective feedback sensitive to individual strengths, weaknesses, learning styles, and prior experiences.
  • Analyze hazards and establish risk assessments to ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Observe training activities to ensure personnel remain within designated safety boundaries.
  • Serve as lead instructor and assistant instructor as necessary.
  • Design and develop course curriculum that meets or exceeds DOE requirements.
  • Identify improvements to training material and update lesson plans.
  • Acquire and prepare training resources and equipment for training sessions.
  • Schedule and set up classroom and training areas.
  • Perform classroom administrative functions involving rosters, exams, and other records.
  • Participate in drills and exercises, acting as a Controller or evaluator as needed.
  • Perform duties as a Strike Contingency Force member.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Adult Education, Criminal Justice, or related field.
  • Successful completion of the Basic Instructor Certification course or equivalent within one year of assignment.
  • Three years' experience conducting training or previous experience in a protective services job.
  • Operational experience in military, law enforcement, or security operations as a team member or instructor.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain Firearms Instructor Certification, Intermediate Force Instructor Certification, and Defensive Driving Instructor Certification within 18 months.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a DOE 'Q' security clearance and meet Human Reliability Program (HRP) requirements.
