About the position

The Certified Level II Pharmacy Technician position at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center is a full-time role that operates under the general supervision of the Systems Director of Pharmacy and direct supervision of a registered Pharmacist. The technician will be responsible for a variety of essential duties related to the purchasing, preparation, distribution, and charging of medications in an outpatient retail pharmacy setting. This includes tasks such as prescription interpretation, order entry, dispensation, packaging, labeling, billing, and inventory management. The Level II CPHT is also expected to train new pharmacy associates or students, demonstrating competency in key assignments such as third-party billing, clerical functions for payment transactions, and the use of pharmacy software for prescription processing and inventory management. The role requires attention to detail and the ability to handle stress from deadlines and strict regulations while multitasking. The technician will regularly interact with other pharmacy associates, nurses, physicians, patients, and outside vendors. The position may involve the handling and disposal of hazardous medications, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The technician will also serve as a preceptor for new associates, providing feedback and evaluations of their performance. The working conditions may include varied shifts throughout the week, and the technician must be prepared to manage supplies and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. To qualify for this position, candidates must have a valid Registered Pharmacy Technician license from the KY Board of Pharmacy and a Pharmacy Technician Certification. A high school diploma or GED is required, along with at least one year of experience in a hospital or pharmacy setting. Basic algebra skills are necessary for calculating dosages, and proficiency in typing and computer operations is essential for the role.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Valid Registered Pharmacy Technician license from the KY Board of Pharmacy.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification required.
  • High school diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • One year of hospital or pharmacy technician experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Basic algebra skills for dosage calculations are required.
  • Typing skills and computer experience are necessary.
