About the position

As a Mammography Technologist Relief at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality imaging services to patients. Your primary responsibility will be to perform routine and special view mammograms under the direction of a radiologist. This position requires a commitment to patient care and safety, as you will also assist radiologists in various procedures, including wire localizations, galactograms, and stereotactic vacuum-assisted biopsy procedures. You will be expected to maintain all essential job functions of the Mammography Technologist and perform other related duties as required by the Breast Center Manager. In this role, you will be part of a team that values the whole person, focusing on physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. You will be responsible for incorporating patient, physician, and customer needs into decision-making processes and organizational actions. Your duties will also include operating computer systems to input patient information, verifying and transmitting exams to the PACs System, and maintaining accurate records of each procedure performed. You will follow safety and infection prevention policies and procedures, ensuring a safe environment for both patients and staff. The position requires flexibility, as you will work on a relief schedule, with hours varying between 7:00 am and 8:00 pm, and occasional Saturday clinics available for pickup during the fall months. You will be expected to attend at least 50% of scheduled department meetings and be accountable for obtaining information from any missed meetings. Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and special view mammograms under the direction of a radiologist.
  • Assist radiologists in wire localizations, galactograms, and stereotactic vacuum-assisted biopsy procedures.
  • Maintain all essential job functions of the Mammography Technologist.
  • Perform other related duties as required by the Breast Center Manager.
  • Follow 'Standard of Behavior' guidelines per hospital policy.
  • Maintain ethical relationships and cooperate with all personnel in proper conduct of the department.
  • Incorporate patient, physician, customer needs and concerns into decision-making and organizational action.
  • Initiate and assist in Code Blue procedures if called.
  • Provide protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Operate computer systems to input patient information and proper protocols for procedures.
  • Verify and transmit each exam to the PACs System for secure storage.
  • Maintain adequate records of each procedure done.
  • Follow the AIDET model (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank).
  • Attend a minimum of 50% of scheduled department meetings and obtain information from missed meetings.
  • Operate Cerner System proficiently, troubleshoot problems with orders, and make corrections within scope of user level.
  • Follow all safety and infection prevention policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or graduate of a technical school.
  • 1 to 2 years of position-related experience.
  • Kansas LRT License.
  • National Registry ARRT.
  • Mammography ARRT Certification RT, (R) (M).
  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to target and assist radiologist/surgeon with stereotactic breast biopsies.
  • 2 to 5 years of position-related experience.
