About the position

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health provides essential clinical support in a family medicine practice. This full-time role involves preparing patients for their visits, assisting healthcare providers with various procedures, and ensuring a high standard of patient care and confidentiality. The position requires certification and relevant experience, along with a commitment to patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for visits using appropriate rooming standards tool.
  • Administer injections as prescribed by the provider and in accordance with practice protocol.
  • Provide gross observations to the provider or licensed nurse for interpretation as necessary.
  • Prepare and administer medications as prescribed by the provider in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Assist providers with various procedures, minor surgeries, and other exams as designated by the provider.
  • Perform Point of Care Testing, including but not limited to hearing, flu, urine, and strep tests.
  • Remove sutures and change dressings on wounds as necessary.
  • Provide clinical advice by phone/electronic correspondence in accordance with established triage protocols.
  • Authorize prescription refills as directed by the provider.
  • Assist in test tracking and monitoring overdue results.
  • Ensure exam rooms are adequately supplied and cleaned after each patient visit.
  • Maintain and clean medical instruments and equipment after each procedure.
  • Assist with proactive outreach for patients requiring preventive and chronic disease services.
  • Perform care coordination activities among specialists and transitions of care to obtain all necessary patient information.
  • Assist in the coordination of referrals, education, and community resources.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives to improve overall patient experience and quality of care.
  • Participate in daily huddles with the provider.
  • Serve as a patient experience advocate by positively interacting with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Handle all patient information confidentially according to privacy policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general equivalent (GED) is required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution (AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT or NAHTR).
  • CPR Certification required: American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support, formerly Healthcare Provider (AHA Heart Saver).
  • A health care provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • One (1) to two (2) years of Medical Assistant experience in a primary or specialty care physician's office.
