About the position

The Certified Medical Assistant for Ortho Surgery Spine at Health First is responsible for providing comprehensive patient care during office visits. This role focuses on patient-centered care, ensuring that patients receive the necessary intake, test results, screenings, and medication administration while delivering excellent customer service. The position involves various clinical tasks, including point of care testing, medication preparation, and maintaining patient flow, all while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately prepares and performs point of care testing such as urine dipstick and blood glucose.
  • Perform clinical intake including vital signs, medical history, surgical history, social history, and verification of current medications.
  • Transcribe and enter written orders in the patient electronic medical record.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by the provider, ensuring proper documentation and coding.
  • Assist in stocking and ordering of supplies and maintenance of equipment.
  • Prepare patients for examination and have pre-work available for the provider, including notes and diagnostic test results.
  • Track and communicate lab and diagnostic study results to patients as directed by the provider.
  • Follow safety processes and policies, including infection prevention procedures and maintaining a clean environment.
  • Maintain patient flow after check-in and discuss patient flow with the physician according to urgency.
  • Provide coverage in other areas of the medical group or office as needed, including patient registration and appointment scheduling.
  • Answer internal and external customer phone calls and direct messages appropriately.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited program.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card.
  • Ability to pass colorblind testing for POC tests requiring color change.
  • Strong customer service skills and knowledge of service recovery techniques.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and keyboarding skills.
