About the position

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) at UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper plays a crucial role in providing clinical and administrative support to enhance patient care. The CMA will work under the supervision of licensed medical practitioners, assisting with various tasks to promote patient health and wellness across all age populations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical support and assist with administrative tasks under the supervision of a licensed medical practitioner.
  • Record and relay patient information, symptoms, and concerns to the medical provider or registered nurse.
  • Complete standardized rooming and perform clinical intake, health data collection, and documentation.
  • Implement age-appropriate interventions based on individual patient needs as directed by the medical provider.
  • Reinforce patient/family teaching plans based on identified health education needs.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with all members of the interdisciplinary team and patients.
  • Utilize appropriate communication tools when communicating within the interdisciplinary team.
  • Document appropriate information in a timely manner.
  • Organize and prioritize daily work assignments to support patient needs and operational efficiency.
  • Provide clinical support including preparing laboratory specimens, performing point of care testing, and administering medications.
  • Document and capture charges for clinical support services rendered during patient visits.
  • Perform administrative support responsibilities as directed by a Clinic Leader.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a medical office setting preferred.
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credentials required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Ability to successfully complete general and department role-based specific skills validation and competency testing.
