About the position

The Certified Medical Assistant at Vanderbilt University Medical Center plays a crucial role in supporting healthcare providers by assisting with patient examinations, managing clinic flow, and performing various diagnostic tests. This position requires a highly organized individual capable of multitasking and working effectively within a team to ensure high-quality patient care. The Medical Assistant will also engage in patient education and maintain accurate medical records under the supervision of the provider or office manager.

Responsibilities

  • Assist provider in performing office examinations and procedures.
  • Organize and manage clinic patient flow.
  • Gather and document patient screening data.
  • Perform in-office diagnostic testing such as X-rays and EKGs.
  • Assist with patient and family education.
  • Clean rooms and instruments.
  • Order and distribute supplies.
  • Schedule appointments and testing, triage phone calls and emails, and handle physician correspondence.
  • Manage insurance referrals.
  • Proactively communicate delays to patients and regulate patient flow/check-in as per protocol.
  • Prepare patients for examination and perform diagnostic testing like spirometry.
  • Maintain patient charts and other care documents.
  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to quality improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved discipline-specific program.
  • 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant.
