About the position
The Certified Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the mission of Community Health Programs by collaborating with healthcare professionals and assisting patients in various healthcare settings. This position requires a friendly demeanor, the ability to travel to different practices, and may involve weekend work. The role emphasizes a caring and innovative work environment while adhering to compliance protocols and organizational policies.
Responsibilities
- Welcome and escort patients to exam rooms; prepare patients for visits; accurately obtain and record vital signs.
- Perform patient intake to assist providers in directing patient care per written protocol; assist providers with exams and procedures as requested.
- May perform EKGs on selected patients; prepare laboratory requests and ensure accurate labeling and records on specimens.
- Deliver specimens to designated areas; retrieve lab results and x-ray reports; clean and restock exam rooms as needed.
- Administer vaccines (if CMA) and maintain professional certification/registration.
- Change/update service profiles to accommodate providers' scheduling needs; answer, screen, and route outside calls as necessary.
- Supply information to callers and record messages; perform clerical duties as requested; communicate with outside agencies as directed by providers.
- Answer patient calls/messages to ensure timely responses; pre-register patients at appointment scheduling; ensure follow-up bookings as required.
- Cross-train to provide backup patient services and reception duties; maintain CPR certification.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited Certified Medical Assistant program.
- Massachusetts Certified Medical Assistant Certification is required.
- Medical office experience and electronic medical records experience are a plus.
Nice-to-haves
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
