About the position

The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) plays a crucial role in the healthcare team by preparing, administering, and documenting prescribed medications for residents in accordance with state regulations and company policies. This position requires close observation of residents' reactions to medications and collaboration with nursing staff to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, administer, and document prescribed medications per protocol.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments as defined by state regulations.
  • Observe and report to the facility's charge nurse reactions and side effects to medication shown by a resident.
  • Take and record vital signs prior to the administration of medication that could affect or change the vital signs.
  • Document reasons prescribed drugs are not administered to residents.
  • Administer regularly prescribed medication after personally preparing the medication to be administered.
  • Document the administered medication in the resident's medication administration record.
  • Administer oxygen in emergencies and notify the licensed nurse on duty immediately after the emergency.
  • Apply specifically ordered ophthalmic, OTIC, nasal, and vaginal medication.
  • Assist in customary daily requirements and tasks in care and treatment, including bathing, feeding, and dressing residents.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Successful completion of State Approved Medication Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program.
  • Good standing in the state registry is required.
  • Preferred one (1) year of previous health care experience.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Universal Precautions and Blood-borne Pathogen rules.
