About The Position

The Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) position at the University of Minnesota Physicians involves practicing full-scope midwifery within the Department of Obstetrics and Women's Health. The CNM will independently manage maternity and gynecological health care, focusing on pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum care, family planning, and preventative care. This role emphasizes collaboration within a healthcare team and adherence to the Standards of Nurse-Midwifery as defined by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. The position is part of a diverse and inclusive practice that values equitable care and supports a variety of birthing options.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and formal nurse-midwife training program.
• Current or eligible MN RN license.
• Approval or eligibility for prescription writing privileges by the Minnesota Board of Nursing.
• Certification through the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).
• Membership and involvement with the MN Affiliate of ACNM and national ACNM.

Nice To Haves

• DNP or PhD preferred (or in process).
• MS degree considered with plans for a doctoral degree.
• 3 years of clinical and teaching experience preferred, but new graduates will be considered.
• Interest or experience working with historically marginalized populations.

Responsibilities

• Provide independent management of maternity and gynecological health care.
• Attend births at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Birthplace.
• Support normal physiologic birth practices, including water birth and nitrous oxide use.
• Collaborate with OB/GYN and MFM providers in a supportive care model.
• Teach and mentor CNM and NP students, medical students, and family medicine residents.
• Engage in quality improvement initiatives and innovative care model development.
• Cultivate relationships with midwives for seamless patient care transitions.
