About the position

As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the Med Surg 6 unit at Children's Hospital, you will play a crucial role in providing direct care to pediatric patients. This position requires you to work full-time nights, totaling 36 hours a week, with a rotating schedule that includes weekends and holidays. You will be part of a dedicated team that is committed to delivering high-quality care in a supportive and inclusive environment. Your responsibilities will include assisting with various patient care procedures under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), ensuring the comfort and safety of patients, and maintaining a clean and organized environment in the unit. You will also be involved in documentation and communication with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that patient care needs are met effectively. This role is essential in fostering a nurturing atmosphere for children and their families, contributing to their overall well-being and recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individualized age-specific patient/family care under the direction of the RN.
  • Performs phlebotomy blood draws and assists with orthopedic device fitting and placement.
  • Completes delegated tasks such as vital signs, intake/output measurements, and assists with patient arrival/discharge.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team discussions regarding patient/family care needs.
  • Documents patient care accurately and within established time frames in EPIC flowsheets.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment for patients and families throughout the shift.
  • Prepares patient rooms for new admissions and ensures cleanliness of the unit.
  • Performs clerical duties including answering phone calls and assisting patients and visitors.
  • Orders supplies to maintain adequate inventory for the unit.
  • Acts as a preceptor for new nursing assistant staff and supports teammates during shifts.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Current and valid Nurse Aide registry in the State of NE or IA is required.
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association is required.
  • Experience as a nursing assistant with pediatric patients is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in basic computer skills are preferred.
  • Effective verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills are essential.
