About the position

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position at PruittHealth Hospice is a PRN role focused on providing compassionate hospice care to patients in their homes or care facilities. The role aims to enhance the comfort of hospice patients while offering temporary relief to their families from personal care responsibilities. The CNA will work within an interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care and support to terminally ill patients, ensuring their dignity and comfort throughout the process.

Responsibilities

  • Commitment to the Hospice concept and standards.
  • Interact with a variety of different age groups.
  • Work independently and within an interdisciplinary team setting.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing with individuals and groups.
  • Handle confidential matters appropriately.
  • Work a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Provide patient care services in accordance with policies and procedures as directed in the CNA/PCA care plan.
  • Assist with personal hygiene aspects of care including bathing, oral hygiene, skin care, and hair care.
  • Assist with the transfer of patients, e.g., bed to chair, bed to commode.
  • Assist with ambulation and exercise of patients as ordered.
  • Assist with or provide meal preparation and related tasks.
  • Assist with feeding of patients.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for the patient.
  • Be aware of the emotional status of the patient and understand the emotional problems associated with the illness.
  • Coordinate care with the primary nurse and the director of health services.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of visits.
  • Provide comfortable care related to turning and positioning, observations, and reporting.
  • Attend regular meetings of the interdisciplinary team and participate in developing, implementing, and evaluating the plan of care.
  • Report patient progress and problems to supervisory personnel and handle medical emergencies as per the patient's service plan.
  • Provide optimal care and dignity for the patient.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the DHS or Administrator.

Requirements

  • Active, current, unrestricted Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification in the state of practice.
  • Maturity and ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job.
  • Ability to read, write, and carry out directions.
  • Empathetic attitude toward the care of the terminally ill and their families.
  • Understanding and commitment to the mission of PruittHealth Hospice.
  • Ability to listen and document services rendered according to agency policy and procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Orientation to Hospice and any other necessary training to complete assigned duties effectively.
  • Participation in agency surveys and required reports.
  • Attendance in continuing educational programs to maintain current license/certification.
  • Participation in mandatory in-services.
