About the position

The Certified Nursing Assistant/Unit Secretary position at Riverside Regional Medical Center is a dual role that combines the responsibilities of a unit secretary and a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) within the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). This position operates under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and Registered Nurses, and is responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the smooth operation of the unit and the delivery of high-quality patient care. The role requires both secretarial experience and a valid CNA license, making it essential for candidates to possess a blend of administrative and clinical skills. In this role, the individual will be responsible for customer service, chart management, and the retrieval of reports, alongside patient care duties. Key responsibilities include ordering supplies, entering orders, filing patient information, and following up with patients and physician offices. The position also involves performing specified treatments and assisting within the scope of practice of a CNA, which may include tasks such as taking vital signs, providing personal care, and assisting with various medical procedures. The successful candidate must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned unit, and must be familiar with the principles of growth and development across the lifespan. The role emphasizes the importance of maintaining a safe work environment for both staff and patients, incorporating national patient safety initiatives. The individual will be expected to demonstrate accountability for ensuring the availability of necessary resources, maintaining a clean and orderly work environment, and effectively communicating with team members and patients. Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates understanding of the importance of accurate and timely order entry, retrieving testing results, and medical record management.
  • Maintains clean, safe, and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment; stocking supplies; placing equipment in proper storage areas.
  • Demonstrates ability to navigate systems to access patient information to facilitate transfers.
  • Follows plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under the direction of RN/LPN.
  • Answers phone in a timely manner using appropriate phone etiquette skills and screens calls appropriately.
  • Promotes teamwork by working effectively as a team member as well as independently.

Requirements

  • Secretarial/admin experience (REQUIRED)
  • Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Upon Hire (REQUIRED)
  • Basic Life Support Card through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association (REQUIRED)
