About the position

The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role in providing occupational therapy services to patients under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist. This position is part-time and requires the COTA to carry out treatment plans developed by the Occupational Therapist in a professional manner, adhering to hospital standards. The COTA is responsible for completing timely and thorough documentation of patient care and works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, Physical and Occupational Therapists, and Rehabilitation staff. The role emphasizes the importance of customer service and maintaining a professional relationship with co-workers, ensuring a supportive environment for both staff and patients. In this role, the COTA will be expected to maintain punctuality, good attendance, and effective communication with patients and their families. The COTA will also be responsible for educating patients and their families on self-care, prevention, and lifestyle adaptations. The position requires the COTA to participate in patient care conferences and represent Occupational Therapy at facility meetings. The COTA will also be involved in planning programs for the department and patients, demonstrating initiative in learning and applying new processes and procedures through continuing education and professional development. The COTA must adhere to hospital policies, maintain patient confidentiality, and respect the expertise of other disciplines. This role is vital in promoting the dignity of patients and ensuring that their needs and concerns are incorporated into decision-making processes. The COTA will also be responsible for maintaining department standards for productivity and positively impacting clinical, economic, and customer satisfaction outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide occupational therapy services to patients under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist.
  • Carry out the treatment plan developed by the Occupational Therapist in a professional manner and within hospital standards.
  • Complete timely and thorough documentation of patient care.
  • Work directly with physicians, Physical/Occupational Therapists, and Rehabilitation staff.
  • Maintain a professional team relationship with co-workers by being considerate and supportive.
  • Communicate honestly and confront issues in a private setting.
  • Obtain approval for treatment changes from referring physician and maintain patient privacy.
  • Educate patients and/or their families in self-care, prevention, and ergonomics as appropriate.
  • Participate in patient care conferences and represent Occupational Therapy at facility meetings.
  • Demonstrate initiative to learn and apply new processes and procedures through continuing education.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or Graduate of a Technical School
  • Kansas License-Occupational Therapy Assistant
  • AHA Healthcare Provider CPR
